Felonies
Felony offences are the most serious type of offence in the state of Virginia. If you are convicted of a felony, you might be sentenced to jail or prison time, you may be heavily fined, you will lose the right to possess a firearm, and you likely must report your felony conviction to future employers. Felony charges, when handled by an experienced defense attorney, can sometimes be reduced to misdemeanors. Whether or not this option may be available to you, Mr. Dorsk will counsel and advise you as you face this difficult time in your life. He will defend your legal rights, work with the prosecution to obtain a favorable result, and fight for you in court.
Depending on the class of felony, a conviction could entail a sentence in either jail or prison. Jail time is generally served at a city facility run by the Sherriff’s department. Prison time is served at a prison facility operated by the Virginia Department of Corrections.
All six classes of felony entail a potential jail or prison sentence and a potential fine,
Virginia Code 18.2-10 addresses the penalties associated with the six classes of felony.
